What to expect from Trans Am Specialties
At Trans Am Specialties, LLC, we take pride in the cars that we restore. We specialize in the Second Generation Pontiac Trans Am and dedicate our time and effort to the preservation of these classic muscle cars. We have not only sent our cars all over the United States, but have also sent our cars World-Wide to places like Ireland, Norway, Spain, and Japan just to name a few. If it were up to us, we would restore every Trans Am down to the last nut and bolt and make it better than it left the factory room floor. But, every restoration is not up to us. We rely on you, the customer, to decide what level of restoration your car (and more importantly your budget) is going to receive. There are many different levels of restoration that we can provide from the driver, to the local car show piece, to the concourse showroom floor restoration. Where and how in depth you would like your car restored is up to you. Because we can restore your Pontiac Trans Am from the ground up, you can also decide what, if any, changes or modifications will be done to your car to make it your own. We strive to bring these cars back to their original status, but again, the final result is up to you. There will be alot of communication between the parties as the restoration progresses to ensure customer satisfaction at the end result. At your request, we will also document the entire restoration process via digital camera and not only post those photos on the website during the restoration, but we will also provide you with a CD/DVD of all of the photos at the time of completion. So that way you can have a complete record of what your car went through to get to where it is today.
Since every car and every budget is different, we have broken down the levels of restorations that we can perform on your Trans Am. Now remember, every car is different and most of these cars are over 25 years old so providing an estimate of work will vary greatly and cannot be done simply over the phone. But here is a few guidelines to help make your decision on what level of restoration is right for you.
Driver Quality:
This is the first level of restoration and of course less time consuming (approx 2-3 months) and the least expensive. This process takes the basics and only restores what is visibly broken or not working. This level is basically a cosmetic restoration, but will also entail some mechanical work. Now, one of the main things we concentrate on first is the safety of your Trans Am. So the basic safety items like brakes, suspension, steering, fuel and exhaust system will all be addressed. So even though this is the entry level restoration and mainly cosmetic, we will perform all safety checks to ensure safe driving of your vehicle. At this level your car will still turn heads and present nicely at shows, but you just might not bring home any trophies. To view an example of this level, see Dan's 1979 Trans Am
Typical Price Range $20,000
Show Quality:
This is the next step up in the restoration process. This involves what most call a "Frame On" restoration. The car is partially dismantled and professionally restored to factory appearance (approx 5-6 months). The car will have no major flaws and present very nicely at local car shows and even some of the larger events. This level goes above the simple cosmetic restoration and replaces or repairs almost every aspect of your car. Again, since safety is a main concern, the mechanicals will be addressed first and foremost. This will also include engine and drivetrain rebuilding to ensure that you will not only feel comfortable driving your car to the local car shows, but also the 6 to 7 hours drive to some of the larger events. At this level, 95% of your car will be replaced and/or repaired to have that factory fresh appearance. To view an example of this level, see William's 1977 Trans Am .
Typical Price Range $32,000
Concours Quality:
This is the ultimate in the restoration process and of course is the most time consuming (approx 10-12 months) and expensive of the levels. In this level of restoration, your Trans Am is completely dismantled to what is called a "Frame Off" or "Rotisserie" restoration. Every nut and bolt is removed and meticulously restored to better than factory appearance. This is the level that will win you trophies at your local car show, major car shows... well, just about any car show out there. This level will be deemed perfect in every way by even the most discernible of onlookers. This car would feel right at home in your garage or even at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. These cars are rarely driven, but they would also feel right at home on the highways of the world. At this level, there will not be a single part of your car that was not touched by our hands. To view an example of this level, see Dave's 1979 Trans Am .
Typical Price Range $60,000
Now again, every car is different and every owner is different, but this will give you a guideline as of what to expect from Trans Am Specialties.
